Aim
EuroVelo is a network of 17 long-distance cycling routes connecting 42 European countries, developed by the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF). These routes, totaling over 90,000 km, are designed for cycle tourism, offering a unique way to explore Europe's diverse landscapes, cultures, and historical sites. While primarily for tourism, EuroVelo strongly promotes the health benefits of active travel, encouraging people to engage in physical activity while experiencing the continent. The network aims to make cycling a safe, accessible, and enjoyable mode of transport for everyone, whether for a short day trip or a multi-week adventure. It connects major cities and rural areas, providing a sustainable and healthy alternative for travel and leisure.
Outcome
Outcome
Increased participation in long-distance cycling and cycle tourism across Europe, leading to improved physical fitness and mental well-being for participants. The network generates significant economic benefits for regions along the routes through tourism revenue and supports local businesses. It also promotes sustainable travel practices and fosters a greater appreciation for European landscapes and cultures.
