Aim

To contribute to halting the rise of overweight and obesity in children by providing training in physical activity and nutrition for kindergarten teachers.

To support socially disadvantaged children and families by providing intervention media, individual counseling, and support in organizing events to inform and engage parents in health-related initiatives.

To support children with a migration background by offering tailored resources and individualized counseling to address their specific needs in physical activity and nutrition, ensuring their inclusion.

To promote physical activity among children by restructuring and intensifying the use of premises, increasing physical education lessons, and encouraging children’s participation in organizing their own physical activities.

Outcome

Outcome

In 82% of the intervention preschools, an increase in a rise in the physical activity of children was achieved through the restructuring or more intensive use of the premises, more physical education lessons, and greater child participation in organizing their physical activity.

In the post-intervention phase, the percentage of children who brought fresh fruit and/or vegetables to the preschool increased by 7%, and whole-grain bread by 10% (both p<0.001). The percentage of children who brought Milchschnitte (a sweetened milk and biscuit bar) was reduced by 5%, and soft drinks by 3% (both p=0.014). The percentage of preschool teachers using the nutrition pyramid in their daily work increased by 40.3% in the intervention group.
