Aim
RURAAC seeks to actively encourage the participation of people with intellectual disabilities (ID) and their families in outdoor sports and recreational activities, promoting both inclusion and well-being through nature.
The project aims to foster the social inclusion of PIDs through the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), applied to outdoor experiences and the exploration of local natural heritage - AAC is a method that supports communication through simplified language and visual tools, providing alternative ways to engage for those who, due to various conditions or impairments, may otherwise be excluded from meaningful interactions and shared experiences.
This process focuses on the co-design development with educators, PIDs, and local community members, aimed at creating AAC materials to promote local natural heritage.
