Aim
This is a large-scale Finnish national action program, aiming to establish a physically active culture in comprehensive schools and upper secondary education. It addresses the growing problem of sedentary behavior among young people by promoting physical activity and reducing sitting time throughout the school day. This includes regular active breaks, the use of standing desks or exercise balls in class, outdoor lessons, and encouraging active commuting (walking, cycling) to school. The program stands out for its "bottom-up" approach, where schools have the autonomy to design and implement their own action plans, based on active student participation.
Outcome
Outcome
Studies have shown a significant increase in physical activity levels and a reduction in sedentary time among students. Participating schools reported improved learning outcomes, increased enjoyment at school, and a more peaceful school atmosphere. The program has also led to positive changes in the organization of activities and school premises, with greater use of outdoor spaces.
